Searching For God Knows What
So I started reading Searching For God Knows What, by Donald Miller today. I only read the first chapter and I’m already loving it. In the first chapter Miller talks about formulas and how we sometimes want God to just give us the steps to get what we want out of life. He talked about how sometimes we make God out to be a genie in a bottle and if He could just come out and grant us a few wishes that would be great. But that’s not our God…He’s not a God of formula or wishes. Miller says the following that speaks volumes to me:
“It makes me wonder if what we really want is control, not a relationship.”
“When I did that, I realized the gospel of Jesus, I mean the essence of God’s message to mankind, wasn’t a bunch of hoops we needed to jump through to get saved, and it wasn’t a series of ideas we had to agree with either; rather it was an invitation, an invitation to know God.”
“I have come to believe the sooner we find this truth beautiful, the sooner we will fall in love with the God who keeps shaking things up, keeps changing the path, keeps rocking the boat to test our faith in Him, teaching us to not rely on easy answers, bullet points, magic mantras, or genies in lamps, but rather His guidance, His existence, His mercy, and His love.”
This has really reminded me that you cannot put knowing God into a formula or step-by-step process. It’s about His love…His Will and it’s about having a relationship with Him.
I can’t wait to continue reading!!

I love that book. All of his books are awesome. :)
That’s what I’ve heard…I can’t wait to finish this one and read more of his.
One of my faves. It was very eye-opening to me and made me realize that I had lived most of my life trying to “put God in a box”. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
Thanks Amanda :) So far…I love it!!
I’ve been wanting to read this. I was gonna wait until after I finished Barbaric Grace…but I still haven’t received it yet…
